Sony PCM-D50 Portable Digital Recorder

These are cool!

I recently used this recorder with an Audio Technica AT-822 and a Lightwave zeppelin for some sound effects recording for an upcoming feature film. The recorder produces extremely usable recordings with the internal microphones, but using something like an Audio Technica AT-822 stereo mic in a zeppelin windscreen is spectacular. I remember the days when the Sony D-7 and D-8 DAT recorders came out. The mic preamps sounded pretty good, but dealing with DAT tapes was a real pain. Now, with the Sony PCM D-50 theres nothing to think about except getting your recording. Better than a Nagra?
